Gauge, Pitch & Drive Links Info

HOW TO FIND YOUR GAUGE

The gauge of a chain refers to the thickness of the drive links and the width of the channel in the bar.

The gauge may be printed or stamped on the guide bar tail. You can also use a caliper to measure your gauge by measuring the thickness of the portion of the link that rides in the guide bar.

Common Gauge Sizes
.043 (1.1 mm)   //   .050 (1.3 mm)   //   .058 (1.5 mm)   //   .063 (1.6 mm)

Remember the drive link and the guide bar gauge MUST match.

HOW TO FIND YOUR PITCH

The chain pitch describes the size of the chain. The pitch may be printed or stamped on the guide bar tail.

If you cannot find it, you can measure the pitch. Measure between any three consecutive rivets, then divide by two.

Common Pitch Sizes
1/4”  //  .325”  //  .325”LP  //  3/8”  //  3/8”LP  // .404”

HOW TO FIND YOUR DRIVE LINK COUNT (DL)

Drive links (DL) are the lower links that ride in the guide bar.

There are several ways to identify how many drive links are needed for your chainsaw bar.

Drive link info may be printed or stampled on the guide bar tail.

Note: the number stamped on the drive link of the chain is not the quantity of drive links.

If you cannot find it, you can count the links.
